Disney’s Genie+ is a new pay-to-skip service that provides access to the most sought-after attractions. As a component of Disney Genie — a complimentary concierge app designed to streamline your visit — this premium feature replaces the previous FastPass system. For an additional $15 per person, guests can bypass the lengthy queues for over 40 experiences across all four theme parks, which many consider to be a worthy investment for enhancing their Disney adventure.
When you purchase access to the Lightning Lane, you have the advantage of selecting the next available time slot for select attractions and entertainment venues. Conversely, without this access, you would be in the Stand By line, which often means waiting an hour or more for most attractions.
Individual Lightning Lane is a premium service allowing guests to bypass the standard queues for highly sought-after attractions, which are not included in the Genie+ service. This option is accessible to all Guests, regardless of whether they have Disney Genie+ or not. Pricing is dependent on the attraction. Examples include:
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Space Mountain
- Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
- Frozen Ever After
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
These options are all available for purchase through the Disney App. Available as an add-on to a ticket or vacation package for the duraration of your visit before you arrive. Or, available for single-day use for existing ticket holders or Annual Passholders the day of visit. You may choose up to three rides with Genie+ and up to two rides with Individual Lighting Lane, starting when the park opens for all guests, or as early as 7am for resort guests of Disney.
Once you’ve redeemed your initial selection (or the arrival window has passed), you can use the app to check your My Day itinerary or Tip Board to see when you’re eligible to make another selection. You can make selections up to regular park closing.
Since it is fairly a new system with quirks to iron out, there may be some wrinkles in your plans once you have done your due diligence in making the most of your Genie+ experience. Should this happen, head over to guest services swiftly, so they may put you back on track if the system fails you. They will make it right and may even throw in some pixie dust for their pardon. Hint hint, extra rides. Thank you!! Your Welcome!! (In Maui voice)
I suggest assessing your situation if this is worth the extra $. Be mindful of how big your group is, the ages, and your overall expectations. If this is your first time, going with a big group or young kids, then yes, every dollar is worth not listening to your young ones whine or older family members bicker. But if you just want to wing it, check the app for wait times on your must do favorite rides and if the wait is ridiculous, cash in. If your Disney vacation has sucked you dry and you just cant afford another dime, wait til its fireworks time and ride to your hearts content. The lines die down drastically an hour before fireworks because everyone and their sister’s mother’s brother’s cousin is securing their viewing spot.
